The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), a Schedule 3A entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), is an independent statutory body that was established in terms of the Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Act No. 74 of 1996. The primary mandate of the SIU is to investigate allegations of corruption, malpractice and maladministration in government departments, municipalities and State-Owned Entities, and to recover financial losses suffered by State institutions.

Job description

Main purpose: To monitor and report on operational risk to SIU operations/ projects. To support the formulation and implementation of risk strategies and mitigation plans to manage risk exposure and to coordinate risk mitigation across the entire organisation.

 

Key performance areas (Include but not limited to): Risk Assessment: Review operational objectives of the business operations to identify operational and project risks.Risk Management and Monitoring: Maintain project risk registers, monitor implementation of approved risk mitigating plans.

 

Technical skills: Analytical. Communication. Conflict management. Interpersonal. Presentation. Risk management. Report writing. Planning and organising. Relationship management.

 

Required knowledge and Behavioural (include but not limited to): Sound knowledge of risk management principles and the best practice e.g. ISO31000, Public Sector Risk Management Framework.Sound knowledge of the applicable legislation. Understanding of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and public sector risk profile. Sound knowledge of the   risk and assurance related systems. Sound knowledge of project methodology e.g. PMBOK, Prince II ,etc. Knowledge of business continuity management principles. Knowledge of financial principles. Advanced MS Office proficiency. Attention to detail. Collaborative. Deadline driven. Results oriented. Influential. Integrity.

Minimum requirements

Minimum qualification and experience: B Degree/ National Diploma in Business Commerce or equivalent (NQF 6/7). Member of Institute of Risk Management SA (IRMSA). 3 years’ experience in risk management.
