The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), a Schedule 3A entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), is an independent statutory body that was established in terms of the Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Act No. 74 of 1996. The primary mandate of the SIU is to investigate allegations of corruption, malpractice and maladministration in government departments, municipalities and State-Owned Entities, and to recover financial losses suffered by State institutions.

Job description

Main purpose: To lead and direct operational and provincial security support to the SIU to ensure that an effective, efficient and robust security system exists and is effectively managed within the SIU in terms of the Minimum Information Security Standards and other relevant legislations. To identify, develop, implement and maintain security processes, practices and policies throughout the SIU to reduce risks, respond to incidents and limit exposure and liability in all areas of information, financial, physical, personnel, customers, stakeholders, visitors and reputation risk.

Required knowledge and Behavioural (include but not limited to): Sound knowledge of safety and security laws, rules and procedures, including without limitation as amended from time to time: Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, Regulations, Risk Management Framework in Public Sector, public security, including the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) and Minimum Physical Security Standards (MPSS). Sound knowledge of SHE legislation. In-depth technical knowledge of information system security technology. Sound technical knowledge in security related systems. Sound knowledge of risk identification, risk management and risk management systems. Understanding of the public sector risk profile. Knowledge of financial principles. Advanced MS Office proficiency. Attention to detail. Deadline driven. Results oriented. Confidentiality. Reliable. Integrity. Independent. Self-starter. Innovative.

Minimum requirements

Minimum qualification and experience: B Honours Degree in Security Management or Police or Risk or Legal or Audit Field (NQF8). Successful completion of State Security Advisory Training or possession of Security Advisor Training Certificate. Occupational Health Certificates would be advantageous. Be subjected to a security clearance of Top-Secret or in possession of a Top-Secret Clearance. PSIRA related certificates. 6-8 years’ experience in security management, of which 4 years is at a management level. Experience in corporate security management and corporate security management and corporate investigations.

·       The SIU is an Anti-Corruption Investigating Unit and requires applicants to make a full and frank disclosure in their application form.
