Main purpose: To lead the strategic design, implementation, and governance of the SIU’s enterprise data management capabilities, including the implementation and maintenance of a modern data lakehouse environment. The role ensures that data is treated as a strategic asset, enabling advanced analytics, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making across the organisation.
Key performance areas (Include but are not limited to): Guide and implement the SIU’s enterprise data strategy aligned with organisational goals. Oversee the design and operation of data platforms, including data lakes, warehouses, and integration pipelines. Lead data governance initiatives, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance with legislation (e.g., POPIA). Manage data lifecycle processes, metadata management, and master data management (MDM). Collaborate with business units to identify data needs for the delivery of actionable insights. Drive innovation in data analytics, AI/ML readiness, and business intelligence. Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary data team (engineers, analysts). Manage data-related projects, budgets, and vendor relationships.
Required knowledge and Behavioural (include but not limited to): Deep knowledge of modern enterprise data management principles, Familiarity with regulatory frameworks including POPIA, King IV, and ICT governance. Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and stakeholder engagement skills. High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving ability. Excellent planning, communication, and report writing skills. Ability to drive cultural change toward data-driven decision-making.
